Why Performance
The need for performance improvement in the gasoline-powered motorhome market is absolutely chronic. Virtually every vehicle on the road among coaches built in the last 20 years needs a Banks Powerpack if not already so equipped. Owners of these vehicles face multiple occurrences of exhaust system or more serious repairs which on average cost 50% to as much as 150% of the price of the Banks System while delivering no performance benefits. Banks offers the only real solution to these problems.

Because knowledge of the above fact has become wide spread, there is a growing trend among buyers of brand new motor homes to budget for performance accessory systems in their initial purchase and to choose to modify their rigs when new. Pickup trucks and diesel motor homes receive very impressive performance gains and improved mechanical reliability as well. Individual vehicles within each of these groups have inherent mechanical problems which are solved permanently with PowerShop products and virtually all can be substantially improved in performance.

The Sins of the Factory and You

Because all mass produced vehicles and especially RV-use vehicles are made to satisfy an average level of quality (which is price-driven) there should and will always be a significant aftermarket industry serving people who want or need better performance from their motor homes and tow vehicles.

If it were not for the mass-produced, average-quality vehicle, there would be no automotive and RV industry opportunity. Vehicles of all types would be so expensive as to preclude wide use. A strong aftermarket, addressing the special needs of end users, is the best way to permit you to improve or change your RV or truck at an affordable price.

At the PowerShop we educate you about the best in RV Performance products, look at your personal RV and towing needs, vehicle condition and intended use and then tailor specific recommendations for you respecting your desires and best interests. We will never recommend a product or service for the reason that we can profit more in dollars than we might from a better quality available product. We can always replace a part, or even a vehicle. We can never replace a customer.

At The PowerShop we will often recommend a series of repairs, modifications and services which will be presented to you in the form of a detailed estimate which can be approached all at one time or in logical steps. The goal of these improvement recommendations is to reach an "Ideal Scene" for the performance of your vehicle. It is the care taken to always keep the needs of our customer first in our recommendations and work performed which sets the PowerShop apart and above competition.

The PowerShop specializes in performance upgrades for gas and diesel powered full size pickups as well as Class C and Class A motor homes. Some of the more common motorhome performance questions we are asked are:

Additional Power

The need for performance upgrades in the motorhome and hardworking pickup truck markets is chronic and widespread. This is particularly true of gasoline-powered coaches and trucks, for example, those vehicles powered by Ford 460 & V10 and Chevy 454 & 8.1 liter engines. Diesel vehicles are not immune and are frequently helped by correcting undiscovered basic problems and/or by installing wisely considered performance enhancement products.

Exhaust Manifold Failure

Almost all Ford 460s and Chevy 454s develop exhaust manifold problems - the harder they work, the earlier these problems arise. If it has gotten to the point that you can hear the exhaust leak when you drive, it's already too late...you may eventually have to purchase new cylinder heads as well as new exhaust manifolds if you choose to ignore noisy exhaust leaks. The only real solution we have found for this situation, in gasoline vehicles, consists of installing the stainless steel headers from Gale Banks Engineering. The Banks 5/8" stainless steel header flanges are specifically engineered to expand and contract in sync with the cylinder head, and reduce exhaust temperatures markedly.

Many diesel-powered vehicles also suffer from exhaust manifold trouble. Often the only effective corrections possible, beyond just replacing failed stock exhaust manifolds, are performance enhancements, which improve the intake breathing and exhaust flow, yielding benefits in power, economy and reliability.
